Biographie

Thierry Lavitra est un scientifique malgache spécialisé en aquaculture communautaire et développement durable des ressources marines. Ancien Directeur de l’Institut Halieutique et des Sciences Marines (IH.SM, Université de Toliara, 2013–2016) et ancien coordonnateur de programme au Secrétariat d’État chargé de la mer (2016–2017), il dirige depuis 2018 l’équipe doctorale « Gestion des Ressources Aquatiques et Aquaculture » et est élu Directeur de l’École Doctorale Thématique Sciences Marines et Halieutiques depuis 2025.

Titulaire d’un BSc, MSc et HDR en sciences marines et halieutiques de l’IH.SM et d’un PhD en biologie marine de l’Université de Mons (Belgique), il est auteur de 40 publications internationales et 89 communications scientifiques. Membre de la WIOMSA, il représente Madagascar au comité éditorial du Western Indian Ocean Journal of Marine Science (WIOJMS).

Domaine de Recherche

Thierry Lavitra est un expert en aquaculture communautaire, ayant contribué au développement de l’aquaculture de concombres de mer et, actuellement, à la valorisation des macroalgues marines du sud-ouest de Madagascar. Il coordonne le projet international de formation « Sciences des maricultures artisanales et village farming » avec des universités belges (financé par l’ARES CCD).

Son travail combine recherche appliquée, encadrement scientifique et transfert de technologie pour promouvoir des systèmes aquacoles durables et renforcer la sécurité alimentaire des communautés côtières.
