A new regional study published in PLOS One provides the most comprehensive overview to date of coral reef restoration initiatives across the Western Indian Ocean, including Madagascar, Kenya, Tanzania, Seychelles, Comoros, Mauritius, Mozambique, and Mayotte.
The paper highlights the rapid growth of restoration efforts in the region, the important role of local communities, and the urgent need for stronger coordination, long-term funding, and standardized monitoring to scale reef restoration effectively.
To make the research more accessible to non-specialists, policymakers, students, and the wider public, a simplified “Made Clear for All” version is also available on our online library HERE.
